Meet the Doctor for School-Age Children
Hi! I'm Dr. Maiman, and I'm a special kind of doctor who helps kids and the grown-ups who care about them - understand how their brains work best. I work with children to learn more about how they focus, solve problems, manage big feelings, and do their best at school and at home.
Some kids find certain things tricky — like paying attention, remembering things, or calming down when feelings feel big — and that's okay. Everyone has strengths and things that feel harder sometimes. My job is to help figure out what you need so you can feel confident, supported, and ready to succeed.
"I'm on your team — here to help you feel confident, supported, and understood."
What We'll Do Together
When we work together, you'll do different activities like puzzles, drawing exercises, and school activities that help me understand how your brain works best. There are no needles or shots, and there's nothing you can get wrong — just try your best. If something feels tricky or frustrating, that's okay — just do your best. We'll move on to something else before you know it.
We'll take breaks when you need them, and I'll explain everything in a way that makes sense. After we're done, I'll talk with your grown-ups to help them understand how to support you at home, in school, and beyond.
The most important thing to know? I'm on your team — here to help you feel confident, supported, and understood.
You're Not Alone
Many kids and teens come to see me every year. It's completely normal to feel a little nervous, but remember — there are no wrong answers, and you can't fail! Lots of kids say they actually had fun doing the activities and learn a lot about themselves in the process.
And here's something important: Coming here doesn't mean something is wrong. Everyone's brain works differently, and everyone has things that are challenging for them. My job is simply to understand how your brain works best so we can help you succeed and to support you.
Meet the Doctor for Teenage Children
I'm Dr. Maiman, a pediatric neuropsychologist who works with adolescents and the people who support them to better understand how the brain works in everyday life. My work focuses on helping teens understand how they think, learn, manage emotions, and handle the demands of school and daily responsibilities.
Everyone has strengths, and everyone has areas that can feel more difficult at times. Challenges with attention, organization, memory, or stress are common—and they don't define who you are. My goal is to help you understand how your brain works and identify practical supports that can help you feel more confident, capable, and prepared to move forward.
"I'm part of your team—here to help you feel understood, supported, and empowered."
What We'll Do Together
During our sessions, you'll complete a variety of activities—such as paper-and-pencil tasks, computer-based exercises, drawing, and questionnaires - that help me understand how you learn, process information, concentrate, remember details, and experience emotions. There are no needles or shots, and nothing you can get wrong—just do your best. If something feels difficult or frustrating, that's okay—just do your best, and we'll move on to something else soon.
We'll take breaks whenever you need them, and I'll make sure everything is explained clearly. After we're done, I'll talk with you and your caregivers - and sometimes with other providers who work with you - to help everyone understand how to best support you at home, school, and beyond.
Most importantly, I'm part of your team—here to help you feel understood, supported, and empowered.
You're Not Alone
Many kids and teens come in for evaluations each year. It's normal to feel a little nervous at first. There are no "right" or "wrong" answers, and this isn't a test you can fail. Most teens find the process engaging and often learn useful things about how they think and learn.
Coming here doesn't mean that something is wrong. Everyone's brain works differently, and everyone has areas that feel more challenging at times. My role is to understand how your brain works and to help identify supports that make school, daily life, and future goals easier to manage.
